Aspirin Mask and blemish spot treatment recipe

A natural skin care remedy for clearer, healthier skin, right from your own "Pantry Spa".....
Aspirin, Lemon and Honey
As a facial mask, or spot treatment for acne and redness.
For informational purposes only, not intended to treat or diagnose medical conditions.
Updated: 2/16/16

A great natural skin care treatment to add to your routine. The aspirin mask is becoming quite popular now, but is not new to the skin care world.

Aspirin  ( acetylsalicylic acid) is a derivative of salicylic acid  It is anti-bacterial, anti-
                inflammatory,
( a beta hydroxayl acid ) it acts as a powerful exfoliant that sloughs off dead, dry
skin cells that clog pores, cleaning them and stimulating
collagen and new skin cell growth as well as healing blemishes.

Honey   is naturally anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and hydrating (a humectant),
killing bacteria, reducing swelling and moisturizing the skin.  No kidding.

Lemon   is optional in this recipe. It is also a salicylic acid, if you are having problems with
breakouts, blackheads etc, lemon juice will help unclog the pores which is the
main reason for breakouts. It's vitalmin C helps minimize sun damage also.

Water or Jojoba oil ( or other vegetable oil like grapeseed or olive ) Joboba is preferred
as it is closest to the skins natural sebum, but it is pricey.

RECIPE:   Can be used as an all over mask or as a spot treatment for blemishes.  I personally have never used this as a full facial mask only as a spot treatment, so I  will only
be sharing the spot treatment recipe.  I only share recipes that I have personally used and tested at Natures Home Spa.

FOR SPOT TREATMENT:
First warm up honey, just a small amount.

Use uncoated aspirins, but if you have the coated variety just
hold them under warm water and rub
between your fingers until the coating wears off,  you can tell when this happens as the aspirin feels gritty and will dissolve quickly in your hand.

Add aspirin to your honey. Add a drop or two of lemon juice, this is optional.  Stir well.

Apply to troubled spots on your face. Acne, pimples, white spots from ingrown hairs,  blackheads. Leave on for 10 minutes, rinse.

Do not use the aspirin mask if you are allergic to aspirin,
or if you can not take aspirin for any other reasons.
Aspirin is not suitable for children under 12 or pregnant women.

All Natural Homemade Moisturizing Soap

Great super moisturizing soap that is good for all skin types, especially the sensitive skin crowd......

"Bumblebee Natural Soap"

This was a fun soap recipe to create.  My newest grandson, Keith, who is just 9 months old....and has lovely strawberry blond hair and fair sensitive skin, needed a super moisturizing soap that is
gentle and won't dry out his skin.  Store bought commercial soap and soap products, YES, even the ones designated "for babies" can be very drying to skin.

This recipe proved to be a great latherer, smooth and creamy with lots of bubbles, leaving the skin
feeling soft and moisturized. Really nice soap.   This bar smells amazing! Pure.

A synopsis of a few of the ingredients found in this bar......recipe to follow:

Avocado butter which is omega-fatty rich, and a great natural remedy for dry skin, made from the flesh of the avocado it is extremely moisturizing for the skin and hair.  It is a heavy butter that is affordable to use as you only need a little of it to go a long moisturizing way!!  I used it at 6.5% in this recipe.

Sweet Almond Oil is rich in vitamins A,D, E and contains linoleic and oleic acids. Natural emollient and moisturizer. Great oil choice for dry skin, cracking skin and skin just stressed from the dry elements of winter.

Vitamin E........ ahhh food for the skin!  Protects skin cells from free radicals, maintains skin oil balance, reduces skins water loss, promotes healing and treats various skin disorders.

Honey is antibacterial, antifungal and a natural humectant, which means it draws moisture from its surrounding and is a great moisturizer as it has the ability to  retain the water, also known to fight skin damage.  Rich and smooth in soaps.

RECIPE:

2 oz   Avocado Butter (6,45%)
1 oz   Sweet Almond Oil (3.2%)
1 oz   Shea Butter  (3.2%)
7 oz   Coconut Oil  (22.6%)
8 oz   Olive Oil  (25.8%)
12 oz  Vegetable Shortening, very moisturizing ( Crisco which is palm/soybean is what I used)

4.2 oz   Lye (sodium hydroxide)
10.2 oz  distilled water

1 TBL  Vitamin E added at trace
1 TBL   Honey, warmed and added at trace
1 TBL   Oatmeal, finely ground into powder in my coffee grinder! blended in at trace
1/2 tsp   Ginger at trace. (Optional ) Ginger is an antioxidant (meaning it inhibits free radicals), and has anti  infammatory compounds called gingerols. This is an optional ingredient that I used in the adult soap, not in the baby soap.

50 drops pure essential oil of choice ( optional ) for a very subtle scent ( added after the cook)

Total oil weight : 31 oz
Total batch with oil and water : 45.45 oz

It is always good to run any soap recipe you are doing through a lye calculator, they are free online.
Try  BrambleBerry.com  or  MMS.com

Note:  Good essential oils to use in a soap recipe for dry skin are lavendar, chamomile, geranium
ylangylang,  sandlewood, rose, rosewood,  jasmine, patchouli, teatree.

Funny Note:  If you notice the bottom of the soap has a darker thin layer....this was my attempt at making a bumblebee stripe! ha!  I poured the hot soap into mold reserving some in crock pot, then added a little cocoa powder to vitamin E and stirred this into the soap hoping to make a dark bumblebee stripe!  By then the soap was a bit too set up to do it well.

thanks,     Anna

Earl Grey Tea Soap with Honey

I just made this,  fresh as the morning,  Earl Grey tea soap.  I added real honey to the recipe along with bees wax for the fresh scent and the excellent qualities they bring.  I steeped 12 oz. of strong Earl Grey tea for the liquid needed in the recipe, along with Olive oil, Coconut oil, Cocoa butter, Shea butter, Grapeseed oil, and soybean/cottonseed oil.  I had such good luck with my first batch of tea soap, that I pretty much stayed with the basic same oils.

This soap smells dewy fresh, the earl grey tea is subtle with a hint of citrus. Lovely.   Great fluffy lather.                Natural color, nothing added.

For my exact recipe proportions  look in comments.

NOTE:  in the recipe listed in the comments section I neglected to say that the lye was measured in ounces.
 My apologies.

Homemade Soap with Tea, Honey and Lemon

Want my exact recipe proportions? Just leave your request under comments.
I absolutely love homemade soap. The creamy texture, the awesome scents, the wholesome ingredients, just draw a body in!   My first attempt at soap making
actually turned out a winning recipe that is still an all time favorite.
I made this soap with real brewed green tea, yummy real honey, and meyer lemon essential oil. It smells incredibly awesome.  It makes really nice bubbles and the scent as you shower is amazing.  I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of this soap.  The fresh scent of the tea lingers on your skin, lovely.   I substituted the water in the soap recipe for brewed green tea. Worked like a charm.

This is a very natural bar of soap, no colorants, or chemicals, very yummy with the added bonus of real honey which is naturally antibacterial, a great cleanser, and a humectant, which means it draws moisture in and helps retain it.      More.......

Chocolate and Honey Facial Recipe

Yum is the only word for this facial, the scent, the richness.... incredible.....
Eating dark chocolate  is well known to be healthy. And if it contains 70% cocoa it is touted as a "superfood".  But did you know cocoa is healthy for the skin also? It is full of antioxidants that promote healthy cellular tissue thru out our bodies.  Pure cocoa powder has twice the amount of flavonols (antioxidants) as dark chocolate by the way.  By applying cocoa directly to the skin we can improve it.   Here's why: Our cells produce free radicals as they metabolize and our body produces natural antioxidants to neutralize these free radicals.  Things that stress our skin like sun damage, smoking, unhealthy living, etc cause an excess of free radicals that can cause damage.  Eating antioxidant rich foods like chocolate, drinking green tea (an explosive trend right now) and even applying cocoa directly to the skin surface is all beneficial.
Personally, I don't get stressed out about all the trendy talk of free radical damage etc,   I just love to make  and use natural body products.  We've got to keep things in balance and keeping a proper perspective on all the hype is essential. Don't get stressed out about all the things that are suppose to cause us stress!  Try my luscious facial and enjoy God's provision!  It's gonna be a great day!

  • 1 teaspoons cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • 1 teaspoon honey  (great cleanser, antibacterial, calms the complexion, moisturizer )
  • 1 teaspoon yogurt  (excellent natural peeling agent, soother, softener, hydrator )
  •  makes 2 masks
